Enhanced Safety and Driving Assistance Features
First unveiled in 2008,the successor to the first-generation XC60was revealed at the Geneva Motor Show.
The new model measures 4,688mm in length, 1,902mm in width, and 1,658mm in height, making it about 6cm lower than the current model for a sharper profile. The engine lineup includes two versions of a 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine, two versions of a 2.0-liter diesel turbo engine, and a T8 Twin Engine plug-in hybrid model, totaling five variants.
Specifications for the gasoline engine variants include the entry-level 'T5 AWD' with a maximum output of 187kW (254ps) and 350Nm of torque, and the high-grade 'T6 AWD' with a maximum output of 235kW (320ps) and 400Nm of torque. For the diesel engines, the entry-level 'D4 AWD' offers a maximum output of 140kW (190ps) and 400Nm of torque, while the high-grade 'D5 AWD' delivers 173kW (235ps) and 480Nm of torque. The plug-in hybrid variant boasts a combined system output of 300kW and 640Nm of torque.
A key feature of the new XC60 is the adoption of three new safety technologies that provide automatic steering assistance. The 'City Safety' auto-brake system now includes steering assist, which can help the driver steer to avoid a collision when automatic braking alone is insufficient within the 50-100 km/h speed range.
Additionally, 'Oncoming Lane Mitigation,' which warns and assists steering if the vehicle drifts into an oncoming lane within the 60-140 km/h speed range, and 'Blind Spot Information System,' which warns of other vehicles in the driver's blind spot during lane changes, have also been enhanced with steering assist functionality.
The new XC60 can also be equipped with 'Pilot Assist,' a driver assistance system that recognizes road lanes and supports steering and acceleration/deceleration up to 130 km/h.
Production of the XC60 is scheduled to begin in April. Details regarding its release date, specifications, and available models in Japan are yet to be announced. We look forward to further announcements.
