A Special Edition V40 Homage to the Classic "Amazon"

On February 16 (Thursday), Volvo Car Japan announced the V40 Amazon Blue Edition, a special specification model inspired by the Volvo "Amazon," a mid-size passenger car launched in the 1950s. The limited edition, comprising 100 gasoline models and 100 diesel models for a total of 200 units, went on sale.

Interior Features the Latest "City Weave"

The Volvo "Amazon," a mid-size car that began sales in 1956 and celebrated its 60th anniversary, was developed with global sales in mind and named after a female warrior from Greek mythology. Starting in 1959, it became the first car in the world to feature three-point seatbelts as standard. By the end of its production in 1970, approximately 700,000 units had been shipped, making it one of Volvo's most iconic models.

Now, a special edition model has been created, paying homage to the "Amazon's" body color.

Two powertrain options are available: a gasoline engine "T3" and a diesel engine "D4." The gasoline engine is a 1.5-liter four-cylinder direct-injection turbo, producing a maximum output of 112kW (152ps) and peak torque of 250Nm (25.5kgm), paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The diesel engine is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo, delivering 140kW (190ps) and 400Nm (40.8kgm), mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission.

Furthermore, the interior featuresGeneva Motor Showwhich was named "Car of the Show" at theConcept Estate"Concept Estate" from the Geneva Motor Show. The "City Weave" upholstery, with its chic and modern aesthetic, draws inspiration from the seat design of this concept car, which was awarded "Car of the Show" at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show. Additionally, the special equipment includes a "Panorama Glass Roof," creating a spacious and open cabin.

Other standard features include 11 "IntelliSafe" technologies, such as a "Pedestrian Airbag" and a "Collision Warning and Auto Brake System with Pedestrian and Cyclist Detection."

Sales are limited to 100 units for both the gasoline and diesel models, totaling 200 units. Both variants are priced 450,000 yen higher than their base models, with the gasoline "T3" at 3.84 million yen and the diesel "D4" at 4.09 million yen.
