The "MINI John Cooper Works Crossover" (known as the Countryman in its home market) is the sixth model in the "John Cooper Works (JCW)" series, which designates MINI's hottest variants. It marks many firsts for JCW, including four doors and all-wheel drive. It is the production version of the concept modelconcept model shown at the Geneva International Motor Showunveiled at the Geneva International Motor Show in February.

The heart of the vehicle is a 1.6-liter twin-scroll turbocharged inline-four DOHC engine, developed with feedback from MINI's racing efforts, particularly in WRC. It produces a maximum output of 218ps (160kW) at 6,000rpm and a peak torque of 280Nm between 1,900 and 5,000rpm. With the overboost function, torque can be temporarily increased to 300Nm between 2,100 and 4,500rpm.

This engine featuresBMWvalve control technology based on BMW's Valvetronic, an aluminum cylinder block and bearing mounts, reinforced pistons, a lightweight crankshaft, and low-friction rocker arms. The exhaust valves are sodium-filled to provide the high cooling capacity required by the turbocharger.

It is paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission. The automatic features Steptronic and allows manual gear selection via the shift lever or paddles behind the steering column. Acceleration from 0-100km/h takes 7.0 seconds. Top speed is 225km/h for the manual and 223km/h for the automatic.

Power is transmitted to the road via the all-wheel-drive system inherited from the "MINI Crossover ALL4." Torque distribution between the front and rear wheels is managed by an electromagnetic center differential. Under normal conditions, power is split 50:50, but the DSC (Dynamic Stability Control) monitors vehicle conditions and can adjust the torque split from 0-100 percent in less than a tenth of a second as needed.

The suspension features tuned sports suspension, lowering the ride height by 10mm. It also includes 18-inch twin-spoke lightweight alloy wheels, red brake calipers, and reinforced anti-roll bars.

Environmental considerations include a brake energy recovery system and an engine start-stop function. Fuel economy figures according to the EU test cycle are 7.4ℓ/100km (approximately 13.5km/ℓ) for the MT and 7.9ℓ/100km (approximately 12.6km/ℓ) for the AT. CO2 emissions are 172g/km for the MT and 184g/km for the AT.

The appeal of the base "MINI Crossover" remains intact. It retains its four doors and large rear hatch, and buyers can still choose between a three-seat bench or a two-seat individual rear seat. Luggage capacity is 370 liters, expandable to a maximum of 1,170 liters by folding down the rear seats.

The interior is finished in a sporty black theme with red accents, featuring a dedicated sports steering wheel, sports seats, piano black trim, dark-colored instrument panels, and an anthracite headliner.
