The Fastest Electric Car at the Nürburgring
As its name suggests, the R8 e-tron is a pure EV based on Audi's sports model, the "R8." In June of this year, it set a new electric vehicle lap record at the Nürburgring Nordschleife with a time of "8:09.099".
The R8 e-tron's motor delivers a maximum output of 280 kW and peak torque of 820 Nm. A T-shaped 49 kWh battery is mounted from the center tunnel to the rear axle, providing a driving range of 215 km. The body utilizes a lightweight construction based on aluminum, with extensive use of carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP), resulting in a curb weight of just 1,780 kg.
Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h is quoted at 4.6 seconds, with a top speed of 200 km/h (this was increased to 250 km/h for the Nürburgring attack).
This R8 e-tron,R18 e-tron Achieved 1-2-3 Finish at 24 Hours of Le Manslike the R18 e-tron, features CFRP for the rear glass section to reduce weight. Consequently, a rearview camera is integrated to ensure rearward visibility. The camera feed is displayed on a 7.7-inch color LCD monitor positioned where a conventional rearview mirror would be.
This monitor is a Samsung Display AMOLED unit, also used in mobile phones. It features self-emission at low voltage, making it more power-efficient and brighter than conventional LCDs.
Video footage from the Nürburgring speed attack confirms that this LCD rearview camera is installed in the R8 e-tron and functions similarly to a standard rearview mirror.
Limited production of the R8 e-tron is scheduled for the end of the year.
