High-Performance S4 Arrives in Japan

Audi Japan announced on Tuesday, October 25, the launch of the newly redesigned high-performance sports sedan "S4" and station wagon "S4 Avant" in Japan. Deliveries are expected to begin in late December.

Equipped with a Newly Developed 3-Liter V6 Engine

The "S4" and "S4 Avant," already released in Europe and other regions last year, have finally arrived in Japan. Sales have commenced.

While the body dimensions are the same as theA4" and theA4 Avant" Avant, the powertrain features a newly developed 3.0-liter V6 turbocharged engine. It employs Audi's proprietary "B cycle" combustion process, which is said to improve power and drivability. Consequently,Compared to the previous model,peak output is increased by 15 kW (21 hp) to 260 kW (354 hp), and maximum torque is also up by 60 Nm to 500 Nm.

Audi states that by making the engine components, such as the cylinder block, from aluminum for weight reduction, and by changing the forced induction system from a supercharger to a turbocharger, they have improved torque and responsiveness.

The transmission is an 8-speed Tiptronic, paired with a full-time all-wheel-drive system (quattro). The European specification sedan achieves 0-100 km/h in 4.7 seconds, while the Avant does it in 4.9 seconds.

The full-time all-wheel-drive system, which distributes engine torque at a front 40: rear 60 ratio during normal driving, is further optimized for traction and agility with the addition of torque vectoring and an optional rear sport differential.

The exterior features a dedicated design for the singleframe grille and bumpers, while the interior boasts sporty yet premium appointments, including combination sport seats in Alcantara and leather.

In terms of safety equipment, the "Audi pre sense" collision prevention system, also featured in theA4" and theQ7", has been further expanded. It constantly monitors the surroundings not only in front but also to the rear and sides using sensors and cameras. A notable feature is the standard equipment that takes over acceleration, braking, and steering operations during traffic jams.

The price is 8.39 million yen for the S4 and 8.68 million yen for the Avant.
