Two "GLC" Models Added: Plug-in Hybrid and AMG 43

On September 9 (Friday), Mercedes-Benz Japan announced the "GLC 350e 4MATIC Sport," a plug-in hybrid, and the AMG model "AMG GLC 43 4MATIC," both additions to the mid-size SUV "GLC." Sales have commenced.

Full Charge Possible Through Regenerative Braking While Driving

As the successor to the previous "GKL," the "GLC". As the name suggests, it is a mid-size SUV with the stature of a C-Class, and until now, three models have been offered, including the "GLC 250 4MATIC" which uses a 2.0-liter inline 4-cylinder turbo and differs in interior, exterior, and equipment.

The newly introduced "GLC 350e 4MATIC Sport" is a plug-in hybrid model that combines a 2.0-liter inline 4-cylinder turbo engine, producing a maximum output of 155kW (211ps) and a maximum torque of 350Nm, with an electric motor that generates a maximum output of 85kW (116ps) and a maximum torque of 340Nm, and also features a boost function. This is the same engine as the "GLC 250 4MATIC."

The system produces a total output of 235kW (320ps) and a maximum torque of 560Nm. The gasoline engine and electric motor can be used selectively depending on the situation, and the electric motor alone can travel approximately 30km. The battery can also be charged while driving through regenerative braking, making it possible to drive solely on the electric motor even without charging facilities.

The battery is an 8.31kWh lithium-ion battery. A full charge takes less than 1 hour in "CHARGE" mode, which charges the battery while driving, or about 4 hours using an AC 200V power source.

AMG-Tuned GLC

Meanwhile, the "AMG GLC 43 4MATIC" employs an AMG-developed 3.0-liter V6 twin-turbo engine. It boasts a maximum output of 270kW (367ps), a maximum torque of 520Nm, and a 0-100km/h acceleration of 4.9 seconds.

It features AMG-exclusive components such as the "AMG 4MATIC" all-wheel-drive system, "AMG sports suspension" that allows selection from three driving modes, and "AMG enhanced brakes" with 360mm drilled ventilated discs on the front and 320mm ventilated discs on the rear.

In addition to driving modes suitable for daily use like "C," "S" for sporty driving on winding roads, and "S+" for maximum performance, there are four types of "I" modes that allow individual setting of engine, suspension, steering, and transmission parameters.

The steering wheel is on the left for the "GLC 350e 4MATIC Sport," which is unique among GLC models, and on the right for the "AMG GLC 43 4MATIC." The price for both the "GLC 350e 4MATIC Sport" and "AMG GLC 43 4MATIC" is set at 8.63 million yen.
