To the lineup of the Mercedes-Benz CLS Shooting Brake, a station wagon-like tail added to the four-door coupe CLS-Class, a high-performance version from AMG, the brand's specialist in high-performance models, the CLS 63 AMG Shooting Brake, is now joining.
The engine fitted is AMG's downsizing engine, the 5.5-liter V8 twin-turbo, which has already been featured in several models, including theSL 63 AMGIt boasts performance figures of 386kW (525ps) at 5,250-5,750rpm and a maximum torque of 700Nm at 1,750-5,250rpm, thanks to the integration of various technologies such as direct injection, piezo injection, twin-turbocharging, and air-and-water intercooling. Furthermore, a limited-edition "Edition 1" model is slated for release, featuring an engine with an increased output of 24kW and 100Nm of torque, reaching 410kW (557ps) at 5,250-5,750rpm and 800Nm at 2,000-4,500rpm. As AMG states, this is undoubtedly a particularly unique model within the CLS Shooting Brake series.
0-100km/h acceleration is achieved in 4.4 seconds, or 4.3 seconds for the Edition 1. The speed is electronically limited to 250km/h. Fuel consumption is 10.1ℓ/100km, with CO2 emissions at 235g/km.
The suspension features the now-familiar "AMG Ride Control sports suspension" for AMG models. It employs a front strut coil setup and rear air suspension to maintain optimal ride height. Drivers can select from three modes for the suspension: Comfort, Sport, and Sport Plus. Additionally, the Electronic Stability Program (ESP) offers three adjustment levels.
The transmission is the 7-speed dual-clutch automatic "AMG Speedshift MCT sports transmission," which offers four drive modes. The engine start-stop function is active in "Controlled Efficiency (C)" mode. Subsequently, in Sport (S), Sport Plus (S+), and Manual (M) modes, the engine control becomes progressively more precise, enabling rapid gear changes.
Carbon ceramic composite discs are available as an option for the brake system, which features larger brake discs than the standard models.
The exterior is distinguished by "V8 BITURBO" lettering on the front wings and two chrome-finished tailpipes on each side at the rear.
The interior features AMG sports seats and a steering wheel upholstered in Nappa leather, aluminum paddle shifters, and an analog clock designed by IWC.
A wooden luggage floor is available as an option, a feature inherited from the standard model. The market launch is scheduled for December 2012.
