A Modern Interpretation of the Popular Rough Road Cars of the 1960s-70s

The "Dune" is a modern recreation of the "Dune Buggy" and "Baja Bug," rough road variants of the first-generation Beetle that gained popularity in California during the 1960s and 70s. It is the first crossover model ofThe Beetle. This is the production version of the concept model announced at theDetroit Motor Show in 2014.

Dedicated bumpers adorn the front and rear, while black wheel arches and protective moldings, 18-inch alloy wheels, and specialized suspension raised by 15mm emphasize its crossover model status.

The body color is the new "Sandstorm Yellow Metallic," evoking the atmosphere of the era. It immediately appeals as a unique Beetle. The interior also features exclusive trim and fabric sport seats. Yellow stitching accents the steering wheel and handbrake.

For the powertrain, the 1.4-liter turbo engine combined with a 7-speed automatic transmission, featuring an idling stop function and brake energy regeneration system, is adopted for the first time in the Japanese specification The Beetle. The engine produces a maximum output of 110 kW (150 ps) and a maximum torque of 250 Nm (25.5 kgm).

The limited production run is 500 units, with a price of 3,219,000 yen.
