S-Class Adorned with Blue Accents

The "S 550 e long" is a plug-in hybrid model within the Mercedes-Benz flagship saloon "S-Class" lineup, combining a 3.0-liter V6 BlueDIRECT twin-turbo engine with an electric motor.

The current S-Class is equipped with cameras and millimeter-wave radar. By analyzing the data obtained from these, it detects preceding vehicles, oncoming traffic, and pedestrians. It judges the situation and provides automatic assistance with acceleration, braking, and steering, achieving "partial autonomous driving." In the S 550 e long, this function is utilized not only for preventative safety but also to enhance environmental performance. It features "Intelligent Plug-in Hybrid" which adjusts the strength of regenerative braking and operating time according to the surrounding conditions.

When driving in EV mode, if further acceleration would necessitate the use of the engine, a "pressure point function" increases resistance in the accelerator pedal to encourage the driver towards eco-friendly driving. Additionally, a "double pulse function" generates two knock pulses in the accelerator pedal when it detects driving that involves unnecessary acceleration.


In this partial revision, the exterior incorporates "blue" accents, reminiscent of eco-friendliness in Europe. A blue ring encircles the headlight lenses, and the front brake calipers are painted blue, clearly defining its identity as a plug-in hybrid.

Furthermore, "PLUG-IN HYBRID" emblems are mounted on both the left and right of the front fenders, subtly expressing its high environmental performance.

The new S 550 e long is available only with right-hand drive and is priced at 16.38 million yen.
