Increased Power and Output, Improved Fuel Economy
The new engines are now fitted to the "4 Series Coupe", "4 Series Cabriolet", and "4 Series Gran Coupe" models. These engines are already used in the "3 Series" and are a new generation of modular engines that achieve a wide range of outputs by arranging cylinders of 500cc per cylinder in-line, according to the total displacement.
The "420i" is equipped with a 2-liter engine tuned to produce a maximum output of 135kW (184ps) and a maximum torque of 270Nm (27.5kgm), while the "430i" features a maximum output of 185kW (252ps) and a maximum torque of 350Nm (35.7kgm).
The top-grade "440i" utilizes a 3-liter inline 6-cylinder turbo engine, evolving from the previous model with a 15kW (20ps) increase in maximum output to 240kW (326ps) and a 50Nm (5.1kgm) increase in maximum torque to 450Nm (45.9kgm). Furthermore, fuel efficiency has been improved by up to 10 percent, achieving 13.5km/ℓ in the JC08 mode.
Along with the engine refresh, safety features have also been enhanced. In addition to the existing "Collision Warning and Mitigation Brake" and "Active Cruise Control," "Lane Change Warning" has been newly added.
Prices start at 5.23 million yen for the 420i Coupe and 6.54 million yen for the 430i Coupe. The 440i starts at 7.92 million yen, with the highest-priced 440i Cabriolet M Sport at 9.01 million yen.
