Two Gasoline Engine Options for Japan
Last January,First unveiled at the Detroit Motor Showthe "Q7" has already gone on sale in Europe. OPENERS has featuredFumio Ogawa's test drive reportandits display at the Tokyo Motor Showwhich are still fresh in our memory.
The second-generation "Q7," now fully redesigned, measures 5,070mm in length, 1,970mm in width, and 1,735mm in height. While 37mm shorter and 15mm narrower than the first generation, the interior space has been expanded through the latest production technologies, enhancing its comfort.
The optional 7-seater package reportedly creates a more accessible seating space. Simultaneously, the use of materials like ultra-high-strength steel and cast aluminum has achieved a weight reduction of approximately 300 kg.
In Japan, the powertrain will be offered in two gasoline engine grades. The "2.0 TFSI" 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo engine produces a maximum output of 185 kW (252 ps) and a peak torque of 370 Nm. The higher-grade "3.0 TFSI" features a 3.0-liter V6 turbo engine delivering a maximum output of 245 kW (333 ps) and a peak torque of 440 Nm. The approximately 300 kg weight reduction and an aerodynamic drag coefficient of 0.31 are said to contribute to agile driving and fuel efficiency.
Both models are paired with a newly developed 8-speed tiptronic transmission. The full-time four-wheel-drive system, typically distributing torque 40:60, adjusts power distribution based on road conditions.
The exterior adopts Audi's latest design language. The use of sharp lines and body creases creates a look befitting a top model, exuding quality and power.
Naturally, the infotainment system features the latest "MMI Navigation plus." It supports mobile music playback and provides a Wi-Fi hotspot for passengers, with connectivity for various smartphones. The navigation system includes a large touchpad for handwriting input, enabling simple operation.
Furthermore, the higher-grade "3.0 TFSI" model comes standard with the "Audi Virtual Cockpit," a 12.3-inch TFT display that projects crisp graphics in place of the traditional instrument cluster.
Safety features include automatic emergency braking to reduce collision risk and "Audi Active Lane Assist" to help the driver stay within their lane, both as standard equipment.
Sales begin in late March. The "2.0 TFSI" is priced at 8.04 million yen, and the "3.0 TFSI" at 9.29 million yen.
