A Handmade, One-Off Model Based on the Z4
The "Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este," held on the shores of Lake Como, north of Milan, Italy, is one of the world's most prestigious classic car concours, alongside the "Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance." It also serves as a competition for beautiful concept and prototype cars.
This year, at the "Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este" held from May 25th to 27th, BMW exhibited theZ4coupé, the "BMW Zagato Coupé Concept," based on the. As its name suggests, this coupé was born from a collaboration with the Italian coachbuilder "Zagato." It features a handmade aluminum body and, unlike the open-top "Z4," has a roof with two humps, commonly known as a double-bubble roof.
Concept cars touched by Zagato are often highlights at the "Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este." In 2010, the "Alfa Romeo TZ3 Corsa" won an award, and in 2011, theAston Martin Zagato Coupétook the award in the concept car and prototype category.
This collaboration between BMW and Zagato was realized through the friendship between Zagato's chief designer Norihiko Harada and BMW Group Design's Senior Vice President Adrian van Hooydonk.
The model is based on a concept called "Vmax Concept," and its aerodynamically optimized design promises high driving performance on both the circuit and public roads. Its design is more three-dimensional than the "Z4," including the aforementioned roof. Additionally, small "Z" emblems are arranged within the front "kidney grille," BMW's signature design element. The rear features a Kamm tail, with a sharply cut-off line.
The interior does not show significant changes from the "Z4." However, red accents are present in the leather, and the headrests feature "Z" embroidery.
The wheels are 19 inches. While details about the engine are not fully disclosed, it is described as high-performance and is paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.
