Most Compact M Model Now Available for Order

BMW announced on the 12th that it has begun accepting orders for the "M2 Coupe," a compact FR sports car, in Japan. Deliveries are scheduled to commence this May.

3-Liter Six-Cylinder Engine Delivers 272kW Output

The "M2 Coupe," the most compact model in the current M lineup, has been born.M2 CoupeIt inherits the tradition of BMW's renowned compact FR sports cars, such as the "2002 Turbo" born in 1973 and the first-generation "M3" that appeared in 1985.

The powertrain features a newly developed 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder turbo engine. BMW claims it offers an exhilarating rev experience akin to a naturally aspirated engine. It produces a maximum output of 272 kW (370 ps) and a peak torque of 465 Nm (47.4 kgm). Furthermore, with the overboost function, peak torque can be temporarily increased to 500 Nm (51.0 kgm).

In Japan, the transmission is a M-exclusive 7-speed dual-clutch, enabling 0-100 km/h acceleration in 4.3 seconds and a top speed of 250 km/h.

As expected from a model designed with circuit driving in mind, the body features a wider front and rear track compared to the standard 2 Series Coupe. It also boasts a specially widened fender panel for enhanced cornering performance.

Additionally, it is equipped with a dedicated suspension, cooling system, and an M differential that freely distributes engine power between the rear wheels. For safe urban driving, it also includes lane departure warning, front collision warning, and collision mitigation braking systems.

Deliveries are scheduled to begin in May, with a price of 7.7 million yen.
