BMW 640d xDrive Announced

BMW has announced that the "xDrive" all-wheel-drive system will be available as an option for the "640d," a diesel engine model in the 6 Series. This is the first time the 6 Series, a diesel engine, and xDrive have been combined.

Exceptional Stability Achieved Through Dedicated Design

The "xDrive" system, now finally adopted for the diesel-powered 6 Series, instantly assesses the vehicle's condition. It distributes torque not only between the front and rear wheels but also controls the rotation of the rear wheels independently, stabilizing the car faster than the driver might perceive. This all-wheel-drive system proves particularly effective during cornering. Furthermore, should the balance be compromised even with xDrive engaged, the Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) intervenes.

The 640d xDrive is equipped with a 3-liter inline 6-cylinder twin-turbo diesel engine that produces a maximum output of 230 kW at 4,400 rpm and a maximum torque of 630 Nm between 1,500 and 2,500 rpm. Paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission, it accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.2 seconds. Fuel consumption is 5.7-5.8 L/100 km, with CO2 emissions at 149-153 g/km. Both coupe and convertible variants are available.
