Emphasizing Agility
As previously reportedthe fourth-generation A6 Avant, which was unveiled in Europe in June, has finally been announced in Japan. Externally, the A5/S5 announced last monthit shares the same headlights, giving it the new Audi family face. With dimensions of 4,940mm in length, 1,875mm in width, and 1,495mm in height, it is slightly larger than the previous model, with a 15mm increase in length, a 20mm increase in width, and a 30mm increase in height. However, thanks to the "Audi Ultra" lightweight technology the company has been promoting, the body utilizes extensive aluminum, achieving a weight reduction of approximately 20kg compared to the previous generation. Simultaneously, safety and comfort have not been compromised; in fact, the body's rigidity has increased, further refining handling performance and improving crash safety.
As a result, it achieves more "agile movement," breaking away from the commercial vehicle image often associated with station wagons. Matthias Schäfers, Audi Japan's General Manager of Sales Operations, stated that the car is a sporty and sharp vehicle befitting professionals and business elites who are active in both business and private life, living up to the Avant name.
"If it's not beautiful, it's not an Avant"
Following a speech by Donato Romanello, Audi Japan's Marketing Communications Director, a ballet performance by the pair Rumi Tachibana and Yuma Miki showcased the motto "If it's not beautiful, it's not an Avant." Romanello explained that the evolution of cars, like ballet, should embody beauty, sportiness, composure, and a sense of security.
The A6 Avant lineup consists of two models. Both are all-wheel-drive with V6 engines, and come standard with a 7-speed S tronic transmission, leather seats, and a 14-speaker BOSE surround sound system. Optional features include 20-inch wheels and a "virtual pedal" that opens the trunk by moving your foot under the rear bumper. The price for the "Audi A6 Avant 2.8 FSI quattro" with a 2.8-liter DOHC V6 engine is 6.4 million yen, and the "Audi A6 Avant 3.0 TFSI quattro" with a supercharged 3.0-liter DOHC V6 engine is 8.65 million yen.
