Debuting at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2011, the Audi R8 GT Spyder is a sportier take on the R8 Spyder. The U.S. retail price for the 2012 model will be $210,000 (excluding tax and $1,200 shipping), with sales scheduled to begin in March.

The exterior features dedicated aero parts, including a front splitter, rear diffuser, and carbon-fiber rear spoiler, enhancing its aggressive stance. The use of carbon-fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) for body panels and magnesium for the engine frame has resulted in a significant weight reduction of 85 kg compared to the standard R8 Spyder 5.2 FSI quattro.

The suspension has been tuned for sportier performance, lowering the ride height by 10 mm. The brakes have also been upgraded to a higher-performance type.

The 5.2-liter V10 engine's output has been increased from the standard 525 ps and 530 Nm to 560 PS (412 kW / 552 hp) and 540 Nm, achieving 0-60 mph in 3.8 seconds and a top speed of 317 mph.

In the U.S., sales will be limited to just 50 units, with one of them scheduled to be auctioned at the Boca Raton Concours d'Elegance Gala on February 25th.
