The Volkswagen "up!", a 3-door city commuter, boasts the largest number of registrations in its class in its home country of Germany. Just €475 More Than the 3-Door
Last year'sCross up! conceptThe 5-door up! will arrive at German dealerships in May. According to Volkswagen, orders will begin in Germany on March 6th, with sales in the European market scheduled to start in early summer. Volkswagen anticipates that over half of up! buyers will opt for the 5-door version. It will feature the same engines as the 3-door model (maximum output of 44kW/60ps and 55kW/75ps), the same model variations (take up!, move up!, high up!, black up!, white up!), and the same vehicle dimensions. In Germany, the price will be €10,325, an increase of €475 compared to the 3-door version.
We Await Its Arrival in Japan
Externally, there are no major changes apart from the bottom edge of the rear window, which sloped upwards towards the rear on the 3-door, now forming a horizontal line to accommodate the two extra doors. The luggage capacity remains the same as the 3-door version at 251 liters. This can be expanded to 951 liters by folding down the rear seats.
Headroom is 993mm in the front and 947mm in the rear. Legroom in the rear is 789mm. The rear seats are positioned about 7cm higher than the front seats, ensuring adequate foot space and visibility for rear passengers.
The infotainment system, operated via a touchscreen, is as comprehensive as in the 3-door up!.
The up!, characterized by its front windshield that extends to the roof, evokes the feel of a smartphone. Rumors suggest a Japanese launch as early as the end of 2012. With the addition of a 5-door variant, it is sure to attract even more attention.
