Go-Kart Feeling in an Open-Top Model

The MINI Roadster, the sixth model in the MINI lineup, offers the refined "go-kart feeling" and high driving performance honed in the MINI Coupé, which is already on the market, along with the open-air exhilaration of a convertible.

To emphasize its elegant silhouette and achieve a classical form with agile driving, the Roadster deliberately employs a manual soft-top. This keeps the vehicle weight the same as the Coupé. Like the MINI Coupé, it features an active rear spoiler that automatically deploys at speeds over 80 km/h, enhancing stability during high-speed driving.

The grade structure follows that of the MINI Coupé. The base "Cooper" grade is equipped with a 1.6-liter naturally aspirated inline-four engine producing 90 kW (122 hp) at 6,000 rpm and 160 Nm at 4,250 rpm. The "Cooper S" features a 1.6-liter turbocharged inline-four engine delivering 135 kW (184 hp) at 5,500 rpm and 240 Nm between 1,600-5,000 rpm (260 Nm with overboost). The top-tier "John Cooper Works" model also uses a 1.6-liter turbocharged inline-four, but with an output of 155 kW (211 hp) at 6,000 rpm and 260 Nm between 1,850-5,600 rpm (280 Nm with overboost).

Like the Coupé, it incorporates environmental measures such as an energy regeneration system and auto start/stop function, achieving fuel economy of 20.5 km/ℓ in the 10-15 mode and 19.0 km/ℓ in the JC08 mode for the 6-speed manual Cooper.

Consequently, three out of the five grades are eligible for eco-car tax reductions. Specifically, the 6-speed manual Cooper and Cooper S models receive a 75% tax reduction, while the 6-speed automatic Cooper S receives a 50% reduction. Furthermore, the Cooper and Cooper S manual models are slated to be eligible for eco-car subsidies (subject to the approval and enactment of the supplementary budget for fiscal year 2012).
