Chrysler has decided to introduce the "Jeep Compass," an entry-level model from the Jeep brand, to the Japanese market. The Jeep for the City Driver
The "Jeep Compass," which will be available in right-hand drive for the Japanese market, shares its platform with the "Jeep Patriot" as a sibling model. However, the interior is equipped to the same standard as the "Patriot's" higher-grade "Limited" model, and its styling aims for a sense of luxury reminiscent of the brand's flagship model, the "Grand Cherokee."
According to Chrysler, they aim to appeal not only to those who associate Jeep with SUVs but also to city drivers seeking hatchbacks and crossovers.
The 2.0-liter inline 4-cylinder DOHC 16-valve engine features dual variable valve timing. Paired with a continuously variable transmission (CVT), it produces a maximum output of 115 kW (156 ps) at 6,300 rpm and a maximum torque of 190 Nm at 5,100 rpm. Furthermore, it will be the first Jeep model in Japan to be offered exclusively with front-wheel drive. The body dimensions are 4,460mm in length, 1,810mm in width, and 1,665mm in height.
Prior to its sales launch, it is scheduled to be exhibited as a reference at the 2012 Toyama Imported Car Show (January 21 (Sat) - January 22 (Sun)), the 15th 2012 Kagawa Imported Car Show (January 21 (Sat) - January 22 (Sun)), the 19th Hiroshima Imported Car Show (January 28 (Sat) - January 29 (Sun)), the 32nd 2012 Kanazawa Imported Car Show (February 18 (Sat) - February 19 (Sun)), the 2012 Mie Imported Car Show (February 18 (Sat) - February 19 (Sun)), and the Sapporo Motor Show 2012 (February 17 (Fri) - February 19 (Sun)).
