Adopts New Front Design

As you know, the Audi A5 series is a model characterized by its elegant and emotional styling. It consists of the Sportback (a five-door hatchback), the Coupe, and the Cabriolet, with a sportier S series lineup for each. The Coupe was first introduced to the Japanese market in 2008, and sales have steadily increased with the subsequent addition of the Cabriolet and Sportback, maintaining a sales volume of 2,000 units per year since 2010.

The new model has now been released in Japan. The concept is "The Sharper Drive." According to Hiroshi Okita, President of Audi Japan, who stood on the stage at the announcement event, the aim was to "elevate the sharpness of the design to the driving experience itself."

Externally, the design of the headlights and taillights has been revised. Xenon plus technology with LED positioning lights is also available as an option for the headlights. The front end features a single-frame grille with the upper corners chamfered, echoing the design of the new A6, giving it Audi's new "face" that began with the A1. The front fenders have been changed to aluminum to optimize front-rear weight distribution.

Inside, new colors and materials have been adopted, along with fine-tuning of details such as the controls.

All A5 Models Eligible for Eco-Car Tax Reduction

The engine lineup features two types of direct-injection turbocharged units based on the downsizing concept. For the A series, there is a 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder with a turbo (maximum output 155 kW [211 hp]), and for the S series, a 3.0-liter V6 direct-injection with a supercharger (maximum output 245 kW [333 hp]). Both come standard with a start-stop system and an energy regeneration system. The transmission is exclusively the 7-speed S tronic.

Incidentally, compared to the previous 4.2-liter V8, the S5 Coupe reportedly achieves an average of 40 percent improvement in fuel efficiency while maintaining the same performance. Meanwhile, all A5 series models have become eligible for the eco-car tax reduction.

Furthermore, with this minor change, the S5 Sportback has been introduced to Japan for the first time. The prices for the A5 and S5 series are as follows:

A5 Sportback 2.0 TFSI quattro: ¥5,800,000
A5 Coupe 2.0 TFSI quattro: ¥5,980,000
A5 Cabriolet 2.0 TFSI quattro: ¥6,540,000
S5 Sportback: ¥8,720,000
