340i Features BMW Group's Latest Inline-6 Engine

Announced in its home country in MayThe New BMW 3 Seriesis already set to go on sale in Japan.

One of the major changes in the new 3 Series is the redesigned LED headlights. While retaining the signature BMW quad round lights, they are no longer perfect circles, but rather have their tops and bottoms cut off. Additionally, a line extending from the inner semi-circle to the kidney grille has been added,Full model change to current modelfurther emphasizing the integrated look of the grille and headlights that was established with the full model change of the current generation.

Furthermore, design lines other than the M Sport feature a new design for the front apron, widening towards the sides. All models now come standard with LED fog lamps. The rear has also been updated with L-shaped combination lights, a traditional BMW design element, now in LED and modified to emphasize horizontal lines.

The powertrain utilizes a new generation modular engine with a cylinder displacement of 500cc per cylinder. Gasoline models employ TwinPower Turbo technology, combining a twin-scroll turbocharger, high-precision direct injection, Valvetronic, and Double VANOS.

Sedan MT Models Continue

The entry-level "320i" is powered by a 2.0-liter inline-4 engine producing a maximum output of 135kW (184ps) and a peak torque of 270Nm (27.5kgm). The 6-speed manual transmission model, available only for the 320i, sees its maximum torque increased to 290Nm (29.6kgm). The "330i," which replaces the previous 328i, uses the same displacement but achieves a maximum output of 185kW (252ps) and a peak torque of 350Nm (35.7kgm) through engineering enhancements.

The "340i," the top-end model replacing the previous 335i, is the first in the BMW Group to adopt the new generation inline-6 engine. It boasts a maximum output of 240kW (326ps), a 20ps increase over the 335i, and a peak torque of 450Nm (45.9kgm), an improvement of 50Nm.

Meanwhile, the "320d" is equipped with a 2.0-liter inline-4 clean diesel engine featuring BMW TwinPower Turbo technology, combining common rail direct injection and a variable geometry turbocharger. It produces a maximum output of 135kW (184ps) and a peak torque of 380Nm (38.7kgm).

The transmission is an 8-speed automatic for all models, except for the 6-speed manual offered exclusively on the 320i sedan.

Additionally, for the sports model "M3", only the rear combination lamps have been updated.

Prices range from 4.27-5.59 million yen for the 320i AT, 4.89-5.11 million yen for the 320i 6-speed MT, 5.06-5.51 million yen for the diesel 320d, 5.99-6.22 million yen for the 330i, 7.76 million yen for the inline-6 340i, and 11.04 million yen for the M3. For the wagon-bodied Touring, prices are 4.49-5.81 million yen for the 320i, 5.28-5.73 million yen for the diesel 320d, 6.21-6.44 million yen for the 330i, and 7.89 million yen for the inline-6 340i.
