Lexus Launches Flagship SUV "LX" in Japan
Lexus is introducing its flagship SUV, the "LX," which was previously sold only in North America, to the Japanese market. Sales will begin on September 14th.

A Three-Row, Eight-Seater SUV
The Lexus "LX" is a large SUV with impressive dimensions—5,065mm long, 1,980mm wide, and 1,910mm tall—that has been sold in North America since 1996. Its domestic launch coincides with a recent model change for the North American version.
The model released in Japan will be the "LX570" exclusively, equipped with a 5.7-liter V8 engine. The spacious interior features three rows of seats, accommodating up to eight occupants.
The LX boasts a front face that adheres to Lexus's latest design language, featuring a commanding spindle grille and L-shaped LED accents below the headlights. The LED turn signals utilize a sequential flow-indicating pattern, now permitted in Japan following a recent legal amendment. The vehicle comes standard with 20-inch wheels, with an optional 21-inch set—the largest offered by Lexus—also available.
The V8 engine delivers a maximum output of 277 kW (377 ps) at 5,600 rpm and generates 90 percent of its peak torque from just 2,000 rpm, reaching 534 Nm (54.5 kgm) at 3,200 rpm. It is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission (8 Super ECT).
The Drive Mode Select system, which adjusts the powertrain, chassis, and climate control settings to suit driving conditions, now includes a customizable mode for the first time, in addition to preset options. Furthermore, the suspension system features 4-Wheel Active Height Control (AHC) and Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS), which work in conjunction with the Drive Mode Select to offer enhanced handling stability and ride comfort. A Lexus-first feature automatically lowers the vehicle's ride height when the engine is turned off, facilitating easier entry and exit.
To aid maneuverability of its substantial body, the LX is equipped with Variable Gear Ratio Steering (VGRS), which adjusts the steering gear ratio based on vehicle speed.

Equipped with the Latest Safety Technologies
As expected of an SUV, it possesses off-road capabilities, including Crawl Control for automatic throttle and brake control at extremely low speeds, Multi-Terrain Select for optimizing traction and braking, Hill Start Assist Control to prevent unintended rollback on inclines, and Turn Assist to enhance maneuverability at low speeds. Additionally, the Multi-Terrain Monitor provides a six-view camera system of the vehicle's surroundings, ideal for navigating blind spots, while Under Floor View allows drivers to see the terrain beneath the vehicle and the position of the tires during off-road driving.
The vehicle's off-road specifications include a maximum climbing gradient of 45 degrees, a maximum stable tilt angle of 44 degrees (preventing rollover), an approach angle of 25 degrees, a ramp breakover angle of 23 degrees (allowing passage without grounding), and a departure angle of 20 degrees. Its maximum wading depth is 700mm.
The Lexus Safety System+ package integrates advanced safety and driver assistance features, including Pre-Collision Safety with pedestrian detection, Lane Departure Alert (LDA) to warn of unintended lane departure, Adaptive High-beam System (AHS) for automatic high beam control to enhance nighttime visibility, and All-Speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control.
Furthermore, standard equipment includes Blind Spot Monitor (BSM) to alert the driver of vehicles in blind spots during lane changes, and Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) to warn of approaching vehicles when reversing out of parking spaces.
The center console features a 12.3-inch wide display. For rear passengers, an optional dual 11.6-inch high-definition display can be mounted on the front seatbacks. The Climate Concierge, which integrates and controls functions such as automatic air conditioning, steering wheel heater, seat heater, and seat ventilation, is also adopted for the first time.
The newly introduced Lexus LX is priced at 11 million yen. Production will take place at the Yoshiwara Plant in Aichi Prefecture.
