Circuit Technology for the Road

BMW4 Series CoupeA high-performance model based on theM4has arrived. One year after the debut of the "M4", BMW M GmbH. has announced the concept for an even more extreme "M4 GTS" that can be used on both the road and the race track.

The Concept M4 GTS unveiled this time is said to be a technological showcase for the production model that will be released later. Its technologies are derived from the circuit, including the innovative water injection system used in the "M4 MotoGP Safety Car" and organic LED rear lights.

This water injection system sprays water into the intake manifold to lower the temperature through evaporative cooling. It suppresses engine knocking, allowing for increased turbo pressure, which leads to improved output and torque. By lowering the temperature, it also enhances the durability and stability of the inline six-cylinder turbo engine. The powertrain's temperature management also incorporates a radiator with additional high- and low-temperature circuits, as well as an electric water pump for turbocharger cooling.

The unveiled model features a sporty Frozen Dark Grey Metallic body color, with Acid Orange accents on the front splitter. The same orange accents are applied inside the wheels. The tires are Michelin Sport Cup 2 in staggered sizes: 265/35R19 for the front and 285/30R20 for the rear. Optional CFRP composite wheels are also planned for the production model.

The CFRP (Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic) front splitter and fixed rear wing are manually adjustable. This CFRP is also used for the bonnet, contributing to a lower center of gravity.

"While the M4 Coupe combines motorsport DNA with everyday usability, the Concept M4 GTS is a particularly powerful and exclusive edition, equipped with pioneering technology, suitable for intense sports driving. Despite its high circuit performance, it remains perfectly usable on public roads," explains BMW M GmbH.
