0-100km/h in 3.8 Seconds Despite Being a Big Sedan

A new model has been added to Audi's flagship four-door sedan, the "A8," which received a minor change in 2013 and was introduced to Japan last spring. While the "S8," which enhances sports performance, was already part of the lineup, the "S8 Plus" announced by Audi tonight is a high-performance oriented model that goes even further.

The highlight of this car is, of course, its powerful powertrain. The twin-turbocharged V8 4.0-liter TFSI engine, which Audi has detuned for the S8 Plus, produces a maximum output of 445kW (605ps), an increase of 63kW (85ps) compared to the normal S8. Maximum torque is 700Nm in normal operation, and an additional 50Nm, reaching 750Nm, is available in overboost mode. This is a 100Nm increase compared to the S8.

In terms of 0-100km/h acceleration, the S8 Plus marks 3.8 seconds, 0.3 seconds faster than the S8. With a top speed of 305km/h, it demonstrates agility comparable to super sports cars of a bygone era. The primary factor behind this performance is undoubtedly the engine upgrade mentioned above, but it is a well-known fact that Audi's unique aluminum body, the Audi Space Frame (ASF), plays a part. Despite its large body exceeding 5 meters in length, its weight is a light 231kg, making it one of the lightest in its class, according to Audi.



The transmission is an 8-speed automatic (Tiptronic) with a torque converter, and Audi's renowned "quattro" all-wheel-drive technology ensures optimal power distribution to all wheels, front and rear. The suspension features adaptive air suspension, balancing dynamic driving performance with a comfortable ride. Dynamic steering, which varies the steering ratio according to vehicle speed, is also available. The car is equipped with exclusive 21-inch wheels for the S8 Plus, fitted with 275/35 tires.

In terms of exterior, it incorporates sharp and powerful styling befitting a sports model. While the basic design follows the S8, the flaps on the side air intakes and the lip spoiler are made of carbon fiber. Additionally, parts such as the side mirror covers and the trunk lid can also be optioned in carbon fiber. The taillights feature a blacked-out finish, and below them, dual gloss black tailpipes emerge. The body color shown in the photo is matte silver, available exclusively for the S8 Plus, but all colors offered for the regular S8 can also be selected.

The interior, like the exterior, follows the S8. The cabin extensively uses leather and Alcantara, with sports seats featuring diamond-pattern stitching. Carbon fiber accents are applied throughout, creating a sporty aesthetic.

The price has been announced at 145,200 euros, with deliveries starting in November. The world premiere is scheduled for the Frankfurt Motor Show in September.
