Entry Grade Features Ford's First Idling Stop Function

The second-generation Kuga, which inherited Ford's "Kinetic Design" language from its predecessor, arrived in Japan in September 2013. Marking its second anniversary since launch, it receives partial improvements, including an engine refresh.

Previously, both the premium "Titanium" grade and the entry-grade "Trend" were equipped with the 1.6-liter four-cylinder "EcoBoost" turbo engine. However, with this update, two types of "EcoBoost" engines are now offered, tailored to each grade.

The Titanium grade is now powered by a 2.0-liter turbo engine with an output increase of 44kW (60ps), delivering a maximum output of 178kW (242ps) and peak torque of 345Nm (35.2kgm). Meanwhile, the Trend grade receives a downsized 1.5-liter turbo engine, maintaining the same output as the previous model at 134kW (182ps) and 345Nm (35.2kgm) of torque. Furthermore, the introduction of an idling stop function, a first for Ford vehicles, achieves a 34 percent improvement in fuel efficiency, reaching 12.7 km/ℓ. Both grades continue to use a 6-speed automatic transmission without changes.

Body colors have also been updated to match the grades. "White Platinum" has been added as an exclusive color for the Titanium, while the Trend exclusively offers "Ruby Red," a new red hue for the Kuga.

All models feature right-hand steering. The Titanium with the 2.0-liter turbo engine is priced at 4.19 million yen, and the Trend with the 1.5-liter turbo engine is priced at 3.59 million yen.
