Citroën's Ascendant Momentum
Since the success of the previous C3, Citroën's sales have been increasing worldwide, gaining momentum. Not only the C series but also the DS series lineup has been successful. The DS5, which is close to its release, possesses such strong product appeal that it can captivate customers even without relying on Citroën's traditional hydropneumatic suspension.
However, Citroën's SUV lineup had been notably weak. Following the moderate success of the C-Crosser, which was based on the Mitsubishi Outlander, the C4 Aircross is being introduced to fill the segment below it.
Although named the C4 Aircross, it shares its underpinnings with the C-Crosser, both being based on Mitsubishi platforms. Simultaneously, the4008announced by Peugeot is an OEM model from Mitsubishi Motors, with whom the PSA Group has a cooperative relationship. The base vehicle is the RVR.
However, from any angle, the exterior design is unmistakably modern Citroën. In fact, almost all exterior panels are custom-designed.
The engine lineup includes two gasoline and two diesel options. In the European market, only PSA-sourced turbodiesel units will be offered. The 1.6-liter version produces a maximum output of 82 kW (112 hp) and a peak torque of 270-280 Nm, while the 2.0-liter version delivers 110 kW (150 hp) and 300 Nm of torque. Both are paired with a 6-speed manual transmission.
In other regions, Mitsubishi-sourced gasoline engines are also planned. The 1.6-liter engine, paired with a 5-speed manual transmission, delivers a maximum output of 85 kW (116 hp) and 152 Nm of torque. The 2.0-liter engine, available with either a 5-speed manual or a CVT, produces 113 kW (150 hp) and 198 Nm of torque.
The drivetrain options include two-wheel drive or four-wheel drive, with the 4WD system supplied by Mitsubishi.
The Citroën C4 Aircross is scheduled for release next spring.
