Mobility Inheriting Racing Car Technology
Considering only the tandem and EV aspects, there is the Renault Twizy from France, for which orders have already begun.
The Audi Urban Concept, like the Twizy, offers the ease of a scooter and electric drive, while also providing the driving enjoyment characteristic of Audi vehicles, inheriting technology from racing cars.
As can be seen at a glance from its exterior image, the Audi Urban Concept is a car developed from scratch, not based on any existing model. The exterior features an open-wheel style reminiscent of a Formula car, and its body, which has been extremely lightweighted, is clad in a three-dimensional, sporty design.
The two-seater cockpit features a carbon fiber reinforced plastic construction with integrated seat bases. The two seats are uniquely designed so that the driver's seat is slightly forward.
For the powertrain, it is equipped with two motors used in Audi's "e-tron" series, and uses lithium-ion batteries.
Body variations will include coupe, sportback, and spider models.
The Audi Urban Concept is scheduled for its world premiere at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show, held from September 13.
