Class-Leading Environmental Performance with SKYACTIV

The popularity of compact SUVs is becoming a global trend. Mazda, which has previously released the large flagship "CX-9" (not available in Japan) and the mid-size "CX-7," announced at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September that it would unveil the compact SUV "CX-5" and begin sales in various countries worldwide from early 2012.

The CX-5 will featurethe minor model change of the "Demio" at the end of Junewhich surprised the public with its fuel efficiency. It also utilizes Mazda's unique, latest environmental technology, "SKYACTIV TECHNOLOGY." The direct-injection gasoline engine is the "SKYACTIV-G2.0," and the diesel engine, available in two variations—standard power and high power—is the "SKYACTIV-D2.2," both featuring high compression ratio engines. Notably, the model equipped with the "SKYACTIV-D2.2" boasts outstanding environmental performance for its class, with CO2 emissions below 120g/km.

Furthermore, in terms of design, the new design theme "KODO – Soul of Motion," first presented in concept cars such as the "SHINARI" and "MINAGI," is adopted for the first time in a production model. Minor Change Model of the Axela Also Premieres in Europe at the Motor Show

At the Frankfurt Motor Show, Mazda will also present the minor change model of the "Axela." In addition to reduced CO2 emissions and improved environmental performance, it features enhanced sporty and stable driving performance, as well as redesigned interior and exterior for further improved quality.

The "CX-5," incorporating Mazda's latest environmental technology and a powerful new design theme, is poised to make a significant impact in the fiercely competitive compact SUV category.
