More beautiful, more intelligent

The exterior design of the new A5 features redesigned headlamps, the new A6giving it a fresh face reminiscent of the new A6. The design of the rear combination lamps has also been changed, with Xenon plus technology and LED daytime running lights available as options.

The new A5 also boasts impressive features for both safety assistance and entertainment. It is equipped with a "Driver Assistance System" that prompts the driver to take breaks, and "Side Assist" that automatically detects the distance to following vehicles when changing lanes. Furthermore, it features the "Active Lane Assist," a first for the A5 series. This system uses a camera to detect lane markings and corrects the electric steering if the vehicle drifts, assisting the driver in safe driving.

Other equipment includes MMI navigation plus, a large-capacity HD, a 7-inch color monitor, 3D graphics, and a DVD player, all with enhanced functionality. Additional options include Bluetooth, online car phone, and Google POI search (navigation with Google Earth). It can also function as a wireless LAN hotspot, allowing internet browsing and email communication within the car.

Engines reach new heights of efficiency

The A5's gasoline engines are available in three types: a new generation 1.8-liter inline 4-cylinder TFSI (125kW output) turbo, the existing 2.0-liter inline 4-cylinder TFSI (155kW) from the previous model, and a newly offered 3.0-liter V6 TFSI (200kW) with a supercharger. All engine types come standard with a start-stop system and a brake energy recovery system. The most notable update is the 1.8-liter engine. With revised engine valve lift control, injection system, and supercharger, it achieves low fuel consumption of 5.7 L/100km in the coupé version, with CO2 emissions reduced by 21% to 134g/km.

The diesel engines include a 2.0-liter inline 4-cylinder TDI (130kW) and two 3.0-liter V6 TDIs (150kW and 180kW). The 3.0-liter TDI with 150kW output, considered the cleanest in the entire lineup, achieves fuel consumption of 4.9 L/100km and CO2 emissions of 129g/km, meeting the European "Euro 6" emissions standard.

For the drivetrain, FF models are offered with a 6-speed manual transmission or Multitronic, while quattro all-wheel drive models come with a 6-speed manual or 7-speed S tronic. The quattro system features a crown-gear center differential and a torque-distributing system (up to 70% to the front, up to 85% to the rear), further enhancing its performance.

The high-performance "S5" model is powered by a 3.0-liter V6 TFSI engine boasting a maximum output of 245kW. Previously, the S5 was equipped with a 4.2-liter V8 FSI engine producing 260kW, but it has now been downsized in pursuit of greater efficiency. Fuel consumption has improved by 20% compared to the previous model, achieving 8.1 L/100km. Despite this, acceleration performance has not been compromised, with 0-100km/h covered in 4.9 seconds and a top speed limited to 250km/h. Additionally, design distinctions have been made for the top model, such as a gloss finish on the body.

Regarding pricing, the base model A5 Sportback will be sold at 33,350 Euros (approximately 3.74 million yen), with the A5 Sportback equipped with the 2.0-liter TFSI seeing a modest increase of 200 Euros (approximately 20,000 yen). The launch date has not yet been determined.
