Plug-in Hybrid Models Also Arrive

BMW's new 7 Series, its first full model change in six years, has been globally unveiled. This iteration, the sixth since its debut, also marks a shift in model designation.from F01/F02to G11/G12, signifying a major evolution.

The new 7 Series will be available in two body styles: a standard 5,098mm length and a long-wheelbase version at 5,238mm, an increase of 140mm. Both models share a width of 1,902mm and a height of 1,478mm. Compared to its rival, the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, which measures 5,116mm (LWB: 5,246mm) in length, 1,899mm in width, and 1,496mm in height, the dimensions are remarkably similar.S-Classthe dimensions are remarkably similar.

The materials used in this body incorporate technology from BMW i, the sub-brand that includes models like thei8andi3. By extensively using carbon fiber in addition to aluminum and steel, weight reduction has been achieved. Consequently, the new model is up to 130kg lighter than its predecessor, with the lightest variant, the '740i', weighing in at 1,725kg.

The engine lineup features refined V8 twin-turbo and inline-6 turbo engines. Additionally, the plug-in hybrid models '740e' and '740Le' replace the previous 'ActiveHybrid 7'.

This plug-in hybrid model combines an inline-4 engine with an electric motor, delivering a total system output of 240kW (326ps). It boasts impressive fuel efficiency of 2.1L/100km (approximately 47.6km/L) and CO2 emissions of 49g/km. The electric motor alone can propel the vehicle up to 120km/h for a range of 40km, providing sufficient capability for zero-emission urban driving.

The transmission remains the familiar 8-speed Steptronic, but changes to the gear ratios and a shift program linked to navigation data contribute to improved fuel economy.

The suspension features auto self-leveling air suspension and dynamic damper control on both front and rear as standard. Furthermore, the exclusive Drive Pro system, with electronically controlled anti-roll bars to suppress body roll during cornering, is available for the first time.

A smartphone holder is also integrated into the center console, offering wireless charging simply by placing the device there.

The new 7 Series boasts a luxurious interior befitting a flagship model. Particularly for the long-wheelbase version, an optional "Executive Lounge Package" is available, focusing on rear-seat comfort for chauffeur-driven passengers. This package includes features such as 4-zone automatic climate control, power-adjustable comfort seats with rear massage function, active seat ventilation for all seats, an executive rear console, and a rear-seat entertainment experience.
