A New Contender in the Booming Compact SUV Market
Fiat "500X"This compact SUV made its world premiere at the Paris Motor Show in October 2014 as the sixth variation in the Cinquecento family. It will be the third model in the family to arrive in Japan, following the "500" and "500C."
In its home market, the body dimensions are approximately 4.25 meters long, 1.80 meters wide, and 1.60 meters high. Although it carries the "500" name, a compact model, it shares its underpinnings with the Jeep "Renegade", and it possesses authentic SUV capabilities, such as automatic switching between FF and 4WD to enhance off-road performance and improve fuel economy during high-speed driving.
While numerous variations are available in its home market, combining different engines, transmissions, and styling, FCA Japan explains that "for the first time in the Fiat brand, we will offer customers the new option of 4WD/9AT." Therefore, a model combining a 1.4-liter turbo gasoline engine with a 9-speed automatic transmission is anticipated.
While their origins and drivetrains differ, the Mercedes-Benz "GLA", Audi "Q3", Volkswagen "Tiguan", Renault "Captur", Volvo "V40 Cross Country", and Japanese models like the Honda "Vezel" and Mazda "CX-3", the compact SUV market is incredibly diverse. Into this landscape, a vehicle combining Jeep's performance with Fiat's design sensibility will be introduced.
Detailed model information, pricing, and launch dates will be announced again in the autumn.
