A Body Design Like a Notchback Coupe

The MINI Coupe marks the first time a two-seat layout has been adopted for a mass-produced model since BMW began developing MINI. While retaining MINI's signature front fascia and smoothly rounded curves, it adopts a three-box style reminiscent of a notchback coupe, with distinct bonnet, cabin, and trunk sections.

Body dimensions are 3,714mm in length, 1,683mm in width, and 1,378mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,467mm (for the Cooper S and John Cooper Works models: 3,734mm length, 1,683mm width, and 1,384mm height).

Compared to the MINI Hatch, it is 26mm shorter, 2mm narrower, and 52mm lower, with the reduced height contributing significantly to its sporty proportions. The "helmet roof," featuring a steeply raked A-pillar for optimized aerodynamics, lends the MINI Coupe further visual distinction.

Cooper Achieves Fuel Economy of 5.4 L/100km and CO2 Emissions of 127g/km

The MINI Coupe lineup includes four models: the MINI Cooper Coupe, MINI Cooper S Coupe, and MINI John Cooper Works Coupe, all powered by a 1.6-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine, as well as the MINI Cooper SD Coupe with a 1.6-liter four-cylinder diesel engine. Let's examine the three gasoline models, which are highly likely to be introduced in Japan.

First, the entry-level MINI Cooper Coupe features a 1.6-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine producing a maximum output of 90kW (122hp) at 6,000rpm and peak torque of 160Nm at 4,250rpm. This model boasts the best environmental performance in the lineup, achieving a fuel economy of 5.4 L/100km and CO2 emissions of 127g/km.

The MINI Cooper S Coupe is equipped with a twin-scroll turbocharger, delivering a maximum output of 135kW (184hp) at 5,500rpm and peak torque of 240Nm between 1,600-5,000rpm, with an overboost function increasing torque to 260Nm. Its fuel economy is 5.8 L/100km, with CO2 emissions of 136g/km.

The MINI John Cooper Works Coupe, powered by an engine developed using motorsport technology, is the most high-performance model in the lineup. It features an aluminum cylinder block, a lightweight crankcase, and reinforced pistons, among other enhancements. This model also utilizes a twin-scroll turbocharger, producing a formidable 155kW (211hp) at 6,000rpm and 260Nm of torque between 1,850-5,600rpm. With a fuel economy of 7.1 L/100km and CO2 emissions of 165g/km, it also demonstrates commendable environmental performance.

Regarding the suspension, the MINI Cooper Coupe is fitted with 15-inch alloy wheels, the MINI Cooper S Coupe with 16-inch, and the MINI John Cooper Works Coupe with 17-inch. It features MacPherson struts at the front and a multi-link suspension at the rear. The Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) ensures traction and driving stability, while the Dynamic Traction Control (DTC) maintains traction on slippery surfaces, allowing drivers to experience MINI's signature agile driving feel in any condition.

As the images show, the MINI Coupe is still in its teaser phase with camouflage applied to the rear. However, with most information revealed, it is expected to be released in this form. We await details on pricing and launch dates.
