Launch in China at the End of May
The Tiida, a global hatchback released in Japan in 2004 as the de facto successor to the legendary Sunny, has since been sold in 165 countries worldwide, including Asia, North and Central America, and Europe. In China, it was introduced to the market in 2005 by the local joint venture, Dongfeng Nissan, and became a major hit, selling 85,000 units in the 2010 calendar year.
A new model of the Tiida has now been unveiled for the first time in Shanghai. According to information from the scene, the new Tiida targets young families who value a high-quality life balance, with its selling points being "a styling that expresses premium agility," "class-leading comfort," and "fuel efficiency and ease of driving." It is positioned to continue leading the Chinese compact hatchback market. Another notable feature is the addition of a turbocharged engine option to the lineup, a first for a Japanese car in the Chinese market.
The exterior design, based on the keyword "Fluid & Brisk," features more dynamic contours than the current model, creating a sense of luxury. Furthermore, to provide even more interior space, the wheelbase has been extended by 100mm, ensuring class-leading rear legroom. The expansion of the front windshield's height and width, along with optimized side mirror shapes, contributes to improved visibility and ease of driving.
The interior's keyword is "Calm & Refined." With a calming color scheme that evokes a sense of being enveloped, it is equipped with premium-feeling meters, a floating center cluster, and wide, soft armrests. The seats have also been improved, pursuing a soft and comfortable ride.
The engine is the HR16DE, also used in the current Tiida. This time, improvements have been made, such as the incorporation of the latest dual injectors that achieve higher combustion efficiency through precise fuel injection, and "PURE DRIVE" low-emission technologies combined with an Xtronic CVT featuring a sub-transmission. Thanks to these enhancements, the new Tiida achieves fuel efficiency that significantly exceeds China's Stage III fuel consumption regulations (draft issued November 2009).
This new Tiida will be produced at Dongfeng Nissan's Guangzhou Huadu plant and is scheduled for release at the end of May 2011. Following the Chinese market, it will be sequentially introduced to approximately 130 countries by 2014, and will soon be launched in the Japanese market as well.
