New Q Series Premieres in Shanghai
Audi has unveiled its new SUV, the "Q3," at this year's Shanghai Auto Show.
This newly refined, more compact model is a premium vehicle that is in no way inferior to its predecessors in terms of practicality, driving performance, or design.

The Compact Premium SUV
After a long hiatus, a new face, the "Q3," has arrived in the "Q" series. As its name suggests, its most distinctive feature is its even more compact size compared to previous models. First, the dimensions, which are of particular interest, are 4,390mm in length, 1,600mm in height, and 1,830mm in width. Compared to the Q5, this represents a reduction of 245mm in length, 60mm in height, and 70mm in width. The numbers alone clearly indicate its compact nature. Although it bears the "Q" series name, its body design is relatively coupe-like, with the D-pillar sloping gently towards the ground rather than being at a right angle. Despite its compact build, the luggage compartment is sufficiently practical. It can hold up to 460 liters in its standard configuration, and this can be expanded to 1,365 liters by flattening the rear seats, making it suitable for a variety of scenes and uses, from everyday town driving to outdoor leisure activities.
The use of aluminum for the hood and tailgate has also helped to keep the vehicle's weight under 1,500kg. The suspension is equipped with 16-inch lightweight alloy wheels and 215/65 tires. The S line, which features more premium components, comes with 17-inch wheels.
The exterior is characterized by Audi's signature single-frame grille and xenon headlights with wedge-shaped LED daytime running lights, emphasizing its distinctive Audi identity. Large air inlets have been added to enhance its powerful appeal. Twelve different body colors are available, with further variations possible through optional extras.
There are a total of four engine options. These are all 2-liter, 4-cylinder engines with different specifications. At launch, two gasoline engines and one TDI engine will be offered, with another TDI engine model to follow. All engines feature start-stop functionality and energy regeneration. The direct-injection gasoline turbo "TFSI" comes in two versions with maximum outputs of 125kW (170hp) and 155kW (211hp). The latter accelerates from 0-100km/h in 6.9 seconds and reaches a top speed of 230km/h.
The turbo diesel "TDI" is available in two models: one with a maximum output of 130kW (177 hp) and another with a maximum output of 103kW (140hp). The 103kW TDI engine, which offers the best fuel economy, achieves a consumption rate of 5.2ℓ/100km. The transmission options include a 6-speed manual for the 103kW TDI and 125kW TFSI, paired with front-wheel drive. The 130kW TDI and 155kW TFSI will be equipped with a 7-speed S tronic transmission combined with the quattro all-wheel-drive system.
The interior design blends ergonomics with craftsmanship, featuring wood trim accented with aluminum in various places.
The Audi Q3 is scheduled to go on sale in Europe starting in June. The base price in Germany has been announced as 29,900 euros (approximately 3.65 million yen). We eagerly anticipate its release in Japan.
