Available in 5-Door and Coupe

The compact SUV, the Evoque, which Land Rover touts as achieving "premium-level craftsmanship, luxury, performance, and all-terrain capability," has had its technical data unveiled.

The body is offered in two styles: a 3-door, dubbed the Coupe, and a 5-door. Both standard models measure 4,355mm in length (4,365mm for the Dynamic model). The wheelbase is also a compact 2,660mm. In contrast, the width is a considerable 1,965mm. The height, designed to emphasize a low, flowing silhouette, is 1,605mm for the Coupe and 30mm taller at 1,635mm for the 5-door.

Two engine options are available. The core of the lineup is a transversely mounted, common-rail, turbocharged 2.2-liter inline-4 diesel engine with a displacement of 2,179cc. Depending on the tuning, peak output is either 110kW (150ps) or 140kW (190ps), with maximum torque at 380Nm (38.7kgm) or 400Nm (40.8kgm). The transversely mounted, direct-injection, turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-4 gasoline engine with variable valve timing, found in the higher-grade models, produces a peak output of 177kW (240ps) and maximum torque of 340Nm (34.7kgm) from its 1,999cc displacement.

Performance figures for the Si4 2.0L gasoline turbo show a 0-100km/h acceleration in 7.6 seconds and a top speed of 217km/h. Environmental performance is also high, with a European combined NEDC cycle fuel economy of 8.7ℓ/100km (11.5km/ℓ) and CO2 emissions kept to 199g/km.

The suspension features MacPherson struts with lower control arms and an anti-roll bar at the front, and struts with lateral and trailing links and an anti-roll bar at the rear. The drivetrain is primarily a Haldex coupling full-time 4WD system, but a front-wheel-drive option is also available for the base model.

The announcement of the launch timing and pricing for the Japanese market is scheduled for autumn 2011 or later. However, prices have already been announced in Europe, starting from £27,955 (approx. ¥3.83 million) in the UK and €33,100 (approx. ¥3.97 million) in Germany.
