The companies of the Volkswagen Group have united to provide support for the victims of the Great East Japan Earthquake. Audi AG and Volkswagen AG will each provide 1 million euros (approximately 115 million yen) in humanitarian aid through organizations such as the German Red Cross. Porsche AG will also contribute 500,000 euros (approximately 57.5 million yen). In total, the Group will provide 2.5 million euros (287.5 million yen) in aid.

Announcing this support in Wolfsburg, Horst Neumann, Member of the Board of Management responsible for Human Resources and Labor Relations at Volkswagen AG, stated, "We are receiving daily messages from employees across the Volkswagen Group expressing their desire to help the people of Japan, particularly in the Tohoku region, who are suffering from this terrible disaster."

Bernd Osterloh, Chairman of the Volkswagen Group's Works Council, commented, "All employees are shocked by the immense scale of the damage caused by this earthquake and tsunami and empathize with those affected. Our thoughts are united by a strong desire to help the victims in any way we can." He also announced the launch of a large-scale donation campaign by employees from across the Group's companies. The Works Council will channel the collected donations through the Wolfsburg branch of the German Red Cross, in coordination with its Berlin headquarters, to the Japanese Red Cross Society, which is actively engaged in relief efforts for this major earthquake.
