50 LEAF Vehicles Donated
Nissan Motor Corporation announced that it has prepared a total of ¥400 million in aid for the areas affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake. This includes ¥30 million in previously announced donations, vehicle donations, employee contributions and matching gifts, and support from overseas subsidiaries.
Fifty LEAF electric vehicles will be donated. This addresses the ongoing shortage of petroleum fuels such as gasoline in the disaster-stricken regions, and the growing interest in EV vehicles that can operate as long as they have a power supply, serving as alternative transportation.
These 50 LEAF vehicles, already being transported as rental cars, will be delivered to local governments in Miyagi, Iwate, and Fukushima prefectures.
While petroleum wholesalers serving the affected areas continue to restore supply chains, there is no prospect of resolving the fuel shortage in the immediate future. This has made it difficult for local governments to operate their disaster relief vehicles, leading to the decision to provide this aid.
