The Car Becomes Mobile with the Introduction of LTE Systems
In January 2011, Audi gave a presentation at the Consumer Electronics Show 2011 held in Las Vegas. This was Audi's first foray into an international consumer electronics show. At that time, Audi CEO Rupert Stadler announced that the company would build cars incorporating "LTE (Long-Term Evolution) technology" in early 2011.
Currently, the most widespread mobile communication system in Japan is the "Third Generation (3G) system," and LTE is an advanced version of this, commonly referred to as "Super 3G."

A few weeks after this show, Audi and Alcatel-Lucent, a company that co-develops with Audi and is involved in building broadband networks worldwide, conducted a demonstration. What was unveiled there was a prototype based on the Audi A8 L, equipped with LTE technology.
The Audi A8 is the flagship model in Audi's lineup, a premium luxury sedan. Despite its large body, it boasts a sharp design, a special interior, and uncompromising performance. It is also equipped with advanced technology, such as the MMI touch system that recognizes destinations by hand-written input on the touchpad.
LTE technology allows for the transfer of large amounts of data in a shorter time than 3G and is a transitional technology towards the next generation "4G." The content of this demonstration involved a presenter, a technician, using LTE technology to stream high-definition live video to the A8 L prototype.
"By utilizing LTE technology, we intend to expand our networking advantage in the automotive world and strengthen our strategy," stated Michael Dick, Member of the Board of Management at Audi.
We eagerly anticipate its introduction into production vehicles.
