The Captur embodies Renault's new design strategy. It follows the "DeZir concept," a two-seater EV with butterfly doors unveiled at the 2010 Paris Motor Show.
As designer Julio Lozano describes it, "imagined as a muscular, energetic sprinter," its powerful exterior design is its most striking feature. While the body design, with its flowing, bold curves, is reminiscent of the DeZir, the Captur is a crossover type, unlike the coupe-style DeZir.
Regarding the vehicle, Director Axel Braun states, "While the design context is the same as the 2010 DeZir concept, the Captur concept fuses the intuitive with the more functional." Dressed in a dark orange body color, the prominent Renault emblem sits at the center of the front grille, and it is equipped with large 22-inch wheels.
The interior features floating front seats, a semi-transparent dashboard, and aluminum pedals, with elastic, luminescent fiber ropes integrated throughout the cabin. The same type of rope is also fitted in the luggage space, allowing items to be stored as if in a hammock. While typically a two-seater, rear seats can also be installed in the luggage area.
The powertrain is the Energy dCi160 turbo engine, developed under a downsizing concept to replace the 1.9 dCi found in models like the Renault Mégane. It produces a maximum output of 118kW (160ps) and a maximum torque of 380Nm, available from just 1,750rpm. Combined with the two-pedal EDC gearbox, it achieves an excellent environmental performance figure of 99g/km of CO2 emissions. Although the Captur is a two-wheel-drive model, it features "RX2" traction control, enabling easy driving even on slippery surfaces.
Functional innovations are also evident, with the Captur being the first vehicle to adopt the Visio-system (a driver assistance system utilizing a camera at the tip of the windshield), which is another highlight of this model.
