The newly announced January 2011 registration figure of 1,396 units marks a new all-time high. Since Audi's official import to Japan began in 1967, the previous record for January sales was 831 units in 1990. This new figure surpasses the peak sales during the so-called bubble economy era by over 500 units. While the overall imported car market saw a healthy 19 percent year-on-year increase in January 2011, Audi's performance was exceptional, with a remarkable 79 percent year-on-year growth.
A contributing factor to this strong sales performance is attributed to the record attendance numbers at debut fairs held across the country forA1the A1. The highly anticipated A1 drew increased visitor numbers, which in turn positively impacted sales of other models such as the A3, A4, and TT.
By model, the A4 series accounted for 27 percent of registrations, making it the top seller, followed by the A3 Sportback at 22 percent, and the A1 at 16 percent. Notably, since its introduction last year, the limited edition of 250 units of theA4 allroad quattrohas already sold over 200 units.
