An Exceptional Powertrain with Enhanced Output and Environmental Performance
The new Audi A8 is positioned as Audi's uncompromising flagship, embodying the concept of "The Art of Progress" with its elegant design, outstanding driving experience, and a safe and comfortable mobile space.
The 4.2-liter V8 FSI engine has undergone detailed refinements, achieving a 22ps increase in output while simultaneously improving fuel efficiency. The 10/15 mode fuel consumption for the Audi A8 4.2 FSI quattro is 8.3 km/ℓ, representing approximately a 26 percent improvement compared to the previous 4.2-liter model (6.6 km/ℓ). Furthermore, the 10/15 mode fuel consumption for the 3.0-liter V6 TFSI engine model, developed based on the downsizing concept, is 9.2 km/ℓ. This model achieves a 30ps increase in output and approximately a 15 percent improvement in fuel efficiency compared to the previous 3.2-liter model. Both power units enhance efficiency not only through improvements to the engine itself but also through various technologies such as an energy regeneration system and thermal management that efficiently utilizes the heat generated by the engine.
The transmission is a newly developed 8-speed Tiptronic, which contributes to approximately a 6 percent improvement in fuel efficiency through its increased number of gears, and is combined with the familiar quattro system. Additionally, the "Audi pre sense" safety system and full LED headlights have been adopted.
This "Audi pre sense" is an innovative safety technology that prevents accidents and minimizes passenger injury in the event of a collision. By monitoring information from the ESP, it detects potential accident risks and activates hazard lights, tightens front seatbelts, and automatically closes side windows and the sliding roof to prevent occupants from being ejected and to stop debris from entering the cabin. Furthermore, the advanced safety function "Audi pre sense plus" is available as an option. This system utilizes sensors from the "Adaptive Cruise Control," which automatically adjusts the distance to the vehicle ahead, and "Audi side assist," which alerts the driver to the presence of other vehicles approaching in the adjacent lane with a light, to warn the driver of dangers from both the front and rear of the vehicle. Additionally, "Audi lane assist," which warns of lane departure through steering wheel vibration, and "Night vision," which uses a thermal imaging camera to detect pedestrians' body heat even in darkness and displays it on the instrument panel monitor to alert the driver, can also be fitted as options.
Exterior Design That Creates a New Character
The suspension system features a 5-link front suspension, an evolution of the double-wishbone design, and a newly designed trapezoidal link rear suspension, achieving a balance of sharp handling and driving stability. Furthermore, the adaptive air suspension, which adjusts the vehicle height and damping force optimally via computer according to road conditions, and "Audi drive select," which optimizes engine, suspension, and power steering assistance levels based on the driving scenario, are standard equipment. The 4.2 FSI quattro is equipped as standard with "dynamic steering," which varies the steering gear ratio according to driving conditions, and offers an optional "rear sport differential" that enhances cornering performance by varying the power distribution to the left and right rear wheels.
The Singleframe grille, a key characteristic of recent Audi vehicles, has been reborn into a new generation that emphasizes three-dimensionality by incorporating distinct angles at its upper corners, moving away from the previous smooth trapezoidal design. Additionally, the shoulder line, which runs in a straight line from the front fenders to the rear end, is said to express the tension of a toned athlete's muscles.
Functional and Enriching Interior Equipment
The interior is equipped with LED ambient lighting that uses illumination of different colors to enhance the cabin space. The Audi A8 L, with its wheelbase extended by 130mm, comes standard with rear executive seats, offering electric adjustment of seat position, a massage function, a rear footrest on the back of the front passenger seat, a charging socket for laptops, a 10.2-inch LCD monitor with a DVD player, and full-segment digital TV for entertainment, providing comprehensive rear-seat amenities. The new generation infotainment system, featuring the "MMI (Multi Media Interface) touch" handwriting recognition system, comes standard with a BOSE surround sound system, with an optional Bang & Olufsen Advanced Sound System boasting 19 speakers and 1400W output available.
