BMW's First Seven-Seater MPV Debuts

The "2 Series Gran Tourer," which made its world premiere at the Geneva Motor Show this March, was unveiled for the first time in Japan. Based on the "2 Series Active Tourer", the company's first front-wheel-drive model, this is a premium minivan that has been lengthened.

With a body size of 4,565mm (length) x 1,800mm (width) x 1,645mm (height), it is 215mm longer than the 2 Series Active Tourer. The addition of a third row of seats allows for a maximum of seven occupants. Despite this, it is still 60mm shorter than the 3 Series sedan (4,625mm), offering a spacious interior within a compact form.

The Japanese lineup includes the "218d Gran Tourer," equipped with a new-generation 2.0-liter four-cylinder clean diesel engine achieving a class-leading fuel efficiency of 21.3 km/l (JC08 mode). Also available are the "218i Gran Tourer" with a 1.5-liter inline three-cylinder twin-power turbo gasoline engine, and the "220i Gran Tourer" with a 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder twin-power turbo gasoline engine. The 218i is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission, while the 218d and 220i feature an 8-speed automatic.

Pricing starts at ¥3.58 million for the "218i Gran Tourer." The "218i Gran Tourer Luxury" is ¥4.11 million, the "218i Gran Tourer M Sport" is ¥4.05 million, the "218d Gran Tourer" is ¥3.79 million, the "218d Gran Tourer Luxury" is ¥4.32 million, the "218d Gran Tourer M Sport" is ¥4.26 million, the "220i Gran Tourer Sport" is ¥4.24 million, the "220i Gran Tourer Luxury" is ¥4.48 million, and the "220i Gran Tourer M Sport" is ¥4.52 million.

All models come standard with features that enhance driving safety and comfort, including "Collision Mitigation Braking," the "iDrive Navigation System" for an optimal driving environment based on ergonomics, and "LED headlights" providing excellent visibility in both night and adverse daytime conditions. Sales will commence on Saturday, June 6th.
