The "Unique Wrangler" Islander Returns for the First Time in 10 Years
FCA Japan will offer 200 units of the "Islander," a limited edition of the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited with a distinctive interior and exterior suited for the beach. It will go on sale Saturday, May 22, 2021.
A Refreshing Design Featuring the "Tiki Bob" Icon, Evoking Tropical Vibes
The "Islander," a "unique Wrangler" reminiscent of a tropical beach, has returned for the first time in approximately 10 years.
The "Islander" first appeared in 1988, based on the first-generation Wrangler (YJ). Its open, playful style was popular, and this marks its return for the first time in about 10 years since the JK model.
The exterior is available in two colors: a cool "Chief C/C" blue and the popular "Hella Yella C/C" yellow. These are paired with a white hardtop, a first for the current JL model, enhancing its refreshing appearance.
The "Tiki Bob," a unique character combining Polynesian mythology's Tiki with Jeep's signature seven-slot grille, adorns the sides of the hood and the spare tire cover, adding a playful touch to the Islander.
Additionally, it features bright silver 17-inch aluminum wheels and Jeep badges that enhance the refreshing atmosphere, along with rock rails on the body sides to protect the undercarriage.
The interior boasts a ceramic white instrument panel, consistent with the exterior's theme, "ISLANDER" logos, and cloth bucket seats accented with surf blue stitching.
Further enhancing the special feel of this limited edition and its outdoor practicality are Mopar stainless steel door sill guards, Mopar rubber floor mats, and a cargo tube liner, all of which catch the eye with every entry and exit.
The base model is the "Unlimited Sport," powered by a 3.6-liter V6 engine producing 284 horsepower. It also includes enhanced safety features such as LED headlights and fog lamps, blind-spot monitoring to assist during lane changes, and rear cross-path detection to alert of approaching vehicles when reversing.
A total of 200 units will be sold, with 100 each in blue and yellow. The price for both is 5.5 million yen.
