Nissan has signed a "SDG Partnership Agreement Utilizing Electric Vehicles" with Kitakyushu City and Kyushu Electric Power, among others. Moving forward, the aim is to achieve the SDGs targeted by Kitakyushu City by utilizing electric vehicles (EVs) in response to increasingly severe and frequent natural disasters due to climate change, promoting the adoption of EVs, and realizing a low-carbon society.

EVs to be Utilized as Emergency Power Sources During Disasters and for Realizing a Low-Carbon Society
Kitakyushu City has been selected by the government as an "SDGs Future City" and a "Model Project for Local Government SDGs." The city has been advancing various initiatives towards achieving the SDGs. As part of these efforts, it is also working to promote the adoption of EVs, having already introduced portable power supply units that draw electricity from EVs to ward offices and promoting the introduction of EVs and other next-generation vehicles for public use.
Nissan, too, announced its "Blue Switch" Japan electrification action plan in May 2018 to address challenges such as reducing environmental impact and disaster preparedness faced by Japan. Through collaboration with local governments and companies nationwide, Nissan has been working to transform society by promoting the adoption of EVs.
The "SDG Partnership Agreement Utilizing Electric Vehicles" signed this time stipulates that when large-scale power outages occur in Kitakyushu City due to disasters such as typhoons and earthquakes, public vehicles and Nissan Leaf EVs loaned by Nissan will be utilized as emergency power sources to protect the safety of citizens.
Furthermore, by supplying electricity from EVs for use at city events and other occasions, the initiative will highlight the effectiveness of EVs as "mobile storage batteries" during disasters and power outages.
In addition, the partnership agreement includes provisions to promote the utilization and adoption of EVs, thereby contributing to the realization of a low-carbon society and the achievement of the SDGs targeted by Kitakyushu City.
