Audi will unveil the open-top TT Roadster, the third-generation "TT," at the Paris Motor Show. This model, the first variation of the new TT to debut after its world premiere at the Geneva Motor Show in March, will be a two-seater with an electric soft top, following the tradition of previous TT Roadsters.

The new TT adopts Audi's evolved design language, hinting at a new generation, while key design elements like the extremely short overhangs and fender flares emphasizing the wheels are inherited from the first TT.

Therefore, the form that makes the Audi TT distinctly TT, iconic design elements, and the front face and sharp taillights inherited from the concept car that served as a preview for the new TT, theAllroad Shooting Brake" Allroad Shooting Brake," are also common in this open-top model.

The body of the TT Roadster, sharing the new design single-frame grille common to the third-generation TT, measures 4,177mm in length, 1,832mm in width, and 1,355mm in height. Compared to the current model, it is 21mm shorter in length and 10mm narrower, but the wheelbase has been extended by 37mm to 2,505mm.

The height is 2mm greater than the new TT Coupe due to the soft top. While the design with the soft top closed has not yet been revealed, the basic design and hardware, other than the changes for the open-top configuration, are expected to be consistent with the previously reported new TT Coupe.

Lightweight soft top focused on sound insulation

The model variations for the new TT Roadster will follow those of the Coupe.

In addition to the base "TT Roadster," a high-performance version, the "TTS Roadster," will also be available. The TT Roadster is equipped with a 2.0-liter direct-injection turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline engine, the "TFSI," producing a maximum output of 169kW (230ps) and 370Nm (37.7kgm) of torque, and a 2.0-liter direct-injection turbocharged four-cylinder diesel engine, the "TDI," generating a maximum output of 135kW (184ps) and 380Nm (38.7kgm) of torque.

Meanwhile, the high-performance TTS Roadster features a more tuned 2.0-liter direct-injection turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline engine, the "TFSI," boasting a maximum output of 228kW (310ps) and 380Nm (37.7kgm) of torque.

For reference, the diesel engine is exclusively paired with a 6-speed manual transmission, while other models offer the choice of a 6-speed dual-clutch "S tronic" transmission. The diesel engine is only available in front-wheel drive (FF), while both gasoline engine options come with the choice of FF or quattro all-wheel drive.

The notable open-top system features an electric soft top, as is standard with all Audi convertible models. It is available in three colors: black, titanium gray, and jive.

The frame is constructed from magnesium, aluminum, steel, and plastic for weight reduction. The soft top itself weighs just 39kg, 3kg lighter than the previous model, contributing to minimal increase in overall vehicle weight. Notably, the "TT Roadster 2.0 TFSI" with the 6-speed manual transmission weighs only 1,320kg, maintaining a light figure despite being an open-top model.

The advanced lightweight soft top stows in a dedicated space behind the front seats, featuring an aluminum tray, and importantly, does not encroach on the 280-liter luggage capacity. Using two motors, it opens or closes in approximately 10 seconds, and can be operated while driving at speeds up to 50km/h.

Furthermore, the addition of a thick fleece layer in the inner headliner reduces noise intrusion by up to 6dB compared to the previous model, creating a comfortable cabin with excellent sound and thermal insulation. With the optional S sport seats, a mesh wind deflector and a head-level heating system further enhance cabin comfort.

The TT family promises exciting future variants
With the top closed, the drag coefficient is 0.30, which is claimed to be the best in its class among open-top cars in the compact sports car segment. Audi's commitment to achieving excellent aerodynamic performance alongside its distinctive design is evident.

Reflecting its open-top nature and perhaps an awareness of being seen, both the Audi TT Roadster and Audi TTS Roadster offer three interior color options: black, rock gray, and palomino brown.

Additionally, the "S line" package allows for customization with contrasting stitching colors, leather seats with diamond stitching, Alcantara trim, and aluminum or specially finished panels. With a total of 11 body colors available, owners can express their individuality.

The Audi TT Roadster is a long-awaited addition to the TT family. Rumors also suggest the upcoming arrival of the "TT RS" with a more powerful five-cylinder engine, and a production model based on the concept carTT Offroad Concept" TT Offroad Concept," so the future developments of the TT family are certainly worth watching.
