Since the first model was unveiled in 2002, Volkswagen's "Touareg", which has led the premium SUV market with over 720,000 units sold worldwide, has undergone its first major revision since its debut as the second generation indebuted as the second generation2010, and has now appeared at the Beijing Motor Show.

While the basic silhouette remains largely unchanged, the new Touareg features redesigned front and rear bumpers. The grille has been updated from two to four bars, and the headlights have been enlarged and now come standard with bi-xenon technology, giving it a more muscular and imposing proportion. Inside, the materials used, such as leather and wood, have been reviewed, and chrome-accented parts have been added to the dashboard, enhancing both sportiness and elegance.

A total of 12 body colors are available, with five new colors added to the new model: "Light Silver Metallic," "Sand Gold Metallic," "Moonlight Blue Metallic," "Black Oak Brown Metallic," and "Leaf Blue Metallic."

The powertrain lineup remains the same, with two diesel engine options: "V6 TDI" and "V8 TDI," two gasoline engine options: "V6 FSI" and "V8 FSI," a gasoline turbo option: "V6 TSI," and a "Hybrid" combining the "V6 TSI" with an electric motor, totaling six types.

The European specification "V6 TDI" diesel engine adopts a newly developed "SCR-DPF (exhaust gas purification technology)" and complies with the "Euro 6" emissions standard to be introduced in Europe in 2015. Furthermore, the engine start/stop function, brake energy regeneration system, and coasting function are standard on all models. For the 204 ps "V6 TDI" model, fuel consumption has been improved from 7.0 liters/100km (14.3 km/l) and CO2 emissions from 184g/km to 6.6 liters/100km (15.2 km/l) and 174g/km, respectively, representing an improvement of up to 6 percent.

All new Touareg models are equipped with a new 8-speed automatic transmission and are paired with VW's "4Motion" all-wheel-drive system. In terms of safety equipment, automatic braking functionality is standard on the "V6 TDI."

In terms of infotainment, the standard navigation system now includes map display services using Google Earth and Google Street View. An online traffic information service will also be provided, with operations scheduled to begin in Europe this autumn. The new Touareg is announced to begin deliveries this summer.
