Truly Flawless. All Safety Features Included.
Mercedes-Benz unveiled the "S 600," the top model of the S-Class, at the Detroit Motor Show. The highly anticipated powertrain is a V12 twin-turbo engine delivering a maximum output of 390 kW (530 hp) and peak torque of 830 Nm (84.7 kgm). This engine boasts a 467cc increase in displacement and a 13 hp boost in maximum output compared to the previous model. Notably, the maximum torque is available from a mere 1,900 rpm, promising a driving experience with ample, effortless power in any situation.
While increasing displacement and power, the engine also incorporates an ECO start/stop function to ensure optimal fuel efficiency. This has improved fuel economy from the previous model's 7.0 km/liter to 9.0 km/liter, a 21 percent enhancement.
These advancements have been achieved through features such as an all-aluminum crankcase, a one-piece chain drive mechanism, a forged crankshaft and new forged pistons made from high-grade hardened and tempered steel, a new engine control unit, sodium-filled hollow-stem exhaust valves, and a redesigned coolant circulation system.
The control interface has been upgraded with the addition of a head-up display and the adoption of a touchpad for various operations. The touchpad allows for handwritten input of characters, numbers, and special symbols, making the infotainment system, including climate control, audio, and navigation, even more convenient to use.
In addition to these features befitting a flagship model, the S 600 retains the electronic control suspension with MAGIC BODY CONTROL for enhanced ride comfort, as seen in previous models. It also includes the LED Intelligent Light System, DISTRONIC PLUS for driving assistance, BAS PLUS, PRE-SAFE Brake, REAR CPA, Active Blind Spot Assist, Cross-Traffic Collision Prevention Assist, and Active Lane Keeping Assist – essentially, all currently availablesafety featuresare installed.
The vehicle is scheduled to launch in the European and North American markets starting this March. While its introduction to Japan is yet to be determined, we hope it will be added as a flagship model.
