World Premiere for the "Mirage," Revived as a Global Strategic Model

At this Tokyo Motor Show, Mitsubishi Motors will hold the world premiere of the "Mirage," revived as an environmentally advanced global strategic model, and the plug-in hybrid SUV "MITSUBISHI Concept PX-MiEV II."

The "MIRAGE (Mirage)," scheduled for sale in Thailand from March 2012, is a compact car developed with the concept of being "small," "low-priced," and "fuel-efficient." With a body measuring 3,710mm in length, 1,655mm in width, and 1,490mm in height, it boasts excellent maneuverability and ease of driving, while employing a highly efficient package that realizes a comfortable interior space for five adults.

The powertrain features a 1-liter, 3-cylinder engine equipped with an auto stop & go system and variable valve timing. Furthermore, by thoroughly reducing weight in every detail and adopting a body shape that significantly reduces air resistance, the car aims for fuel efficiency of 30km/ℓ, carrying on the fundamental philosophy of the first generation as a car that pursues the essence of a compact car.

The Twin-Motor Plug-in Hybrid "MITSUBISHI Concept PX-MiEV II"

The "MITSUBISHI Concept PX-MiEV II" is a plug-in hybrid SUV proposed for mid-size vehicles and above, which require long-distance travel. Equipped with a high-capacity battery, it enables over 50 kilometers of zero-emission driving. Its maximum cruising range is over 800 kilometers, and it is said to achieve fuel efficiency of over 60km/ℓ.

In addition to the "Battery Driving Mode," which allows EV driving with the flick of a switch when there is sufficient battery charge, there is also a "Battery Charging Mode" that uses the engine to generate electricity, suppressing battery consumption during driving and storing power. The stored electricity can be used via an outlet for outdoor electrical appliances, as an emergency power source, and is also adaptable for power supply to homes.

The twin-motor 4WD system is controlled by "S-AWC," the integrated vehicle dynamics control system found in the "Lancer Evolution X." Thanks to the responsiveness and high torque generated from startup, characteristic of electric motors, it achieves acceleration performance comparable to a 3.0-liter V6 engine vehicle.

In addition, a total of 15 vehicles will be exhibited, including the light commercial EV "MINICAB-MiEV," scheduled for release this December, and the SUV "Pajero" equipped with a clean diesel engine. Furthermore, Mitsubishi Motors' unique "EIS (Electric Vehicle Integration System)," which optimally controls the charging status of vehicle batteries at all times, combined with a "HEMS" (Home Energy Management System), will be introduced in the "MiEV House," and a "MiEV Cafe" utilizing EV batteries will also be featured.
