A Dream Supercar Anyone Can Drive
A major feature of "Gran Turismo 6," the PlayStation 3 game software released today, December 5th, by Sony Computer Entertainment, is the "Vision Gran Turismo" collaboration project with car manufacturers. It allows players to enjoy virtual races in cars designed exclusively for Gran Turismo. This is a dream collaboration that, while seemingly obvious, has never quite materialized until now.
The first model revealed for "Vision Gran Turismo" was the "Mercedes-Benz AMG Vision Gran Turismo." We are truly impressed that they developed a drivable real-life car for the LA Motor Show, even if it is a concept.
Mercedes-Benz's development division, as an homage to theSLS AMG"SLS AMG," gave it gullwing doors, and embodied the image of a future super sports car. Its lustrous body is crafted from carbon and aluminum, housing an AMG-sourced V8 twin-turbo engine producing 430kW (577hp) in a front-midship configuration. The transmission is a 7-speed DCT, the "AMG Speedshift DCT," paired with front and rear double-wishbone suspension and an electronically controlled differential (all as envisioned). The wheels are of different sizes front and rear, equipped with tires sized 275/30ZR21 at the front and 335/25ZR22 at the rear (these are real).
What's noteworthy is that this machine is not merely a concept car. Indeed, anyone can enjoy driving it as the owner in the driving simulation game "Gran Turismo 6." While it's a dream car, its dream is directed differently from a concept car merely displayed as a showpiece.
We draw your attention to "Gran Turismo 6," celebrating its 15th anniversary, and the "Mercedes-Benz AMG Vision Gran Turismo."
Incidentally, the "Gran Turismo" series has featured a total of 21 Mercedes-Benz models, including the "300 SL Coupe" from 1954, the "Sauber-Mercedes C9 (racing car)" from 1989, the "190E 2.5-16 Evolution II" from 1992, theC 63 AMG"" in 2008, theSLS AMG"" in 2010, and theSLS AMG GT3"".
