The 4 Series Quickly Becomes a Complete Model
The "4 Series," which debuted in June of this year,BMWhas only just been introduced to Japan this autumn.this autumnHowever, Alpina has already based its latest model, the "B4 BiTurbo Coupe," on the 4 Series, and gave it its world premiere at this Tokyo Motor Show.
As with all Alpina models, the exterior ornamentation is remarkably restrained given its potential. The distinctive features that announce this model as an Alpina are the gold stripes adorning the body, the aero parts with a style that doesn't overemphasize their presence, and the characteristic 21-spoke alloy wheels.
However, it is in these subtle differences that unlock significant performance where Alpina's essence and appeal truly lie.
The front and rear spoilers, fitted to blend seamlessly with the B4 BiTurbo's form, optimize aerodynamic characteristics when combined, contributing to vehicle stability at high speeds.
Behind the 20-inch "ALPINA CLASSIC wheels" shining on its feet lies a large 18-inch brake system delivering powerful stopping power. The aluminum monobloc calipers, adorned with the Alpina logo, are 4-piston at the front and 2-piston at the rear.
The calipers are painted blue, and the use of heat-resistant coating paint to prevent brake fade and enhance brake pedal responsiveness further underscores the commitment to driving performance. At the rear, the distinctive oval twin exhaust pipes, hinting at the car's powerful performance, catch the eye. These are also exclusive to the B4 BiTurbo.

Thorough Engineering Down to the Finest Details
Now, let's look at the performance that will pique your interest. The 3.0-liter twin-turbo engine installed in the B4 BiTurbo produces a maximum output of 410 ps at 5,500-6,250 rpm and a maximum torque of 600 Nm at 3,000-4,000 rpm. Furthermore, it maintains a strong torque of 550 Nm over a wide range from 2,000 to 5,000 rpm, which falls within the practical driving range, ensuring powerful acceleration from any speed.
The combination with the ZF 8-speed sports automatic transmission is also superb, achieving 0-100 km/h acceleration in just 4.2 seconds and a top cruising speed of 305 km/h.
The suspension also featuresAlpina'sproprietary tuning. For example, camber and toe angles are adjusted to match the chosen wheels and tires, with meticulous adjustments made to every detail, resulting in the characteristic Alpina handling.
Environmental performance has also been considered, with the inclusion of efficient features such as auto start-stop and Valvetronic, achieving fuel economy of 13.1 km/ℓ despite the high-output engine.
The launch in Japan is announced for summer 2014 or later. The stated price for the left-hand drive specification is 10.39 million yen. A right-hand drive version is also available as an option, requiring an additional 258,000 yen. Detailed option information, including the interior, will likely be released soon. For those seeking a high-performance coupe with dignity, please await further updates.
